Vietnamese English Language Immersion Campaign Kicks-Off with Web Launch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vietnamese English Language Immersion Campaign Kicks-Off with Web Launch Garden Grove, California—April 18, 2013

The Organizing Committee of the Vietnamese English Language Immersion (VELI) program proudly announces the launch of iViet.org, a website and community forum that will provide information and community support to students, parents, and those interested in VELI’s progress. Both the site and forum will launch April 18th, 2013 and provide the community with relevant information and updates on VELI’s mission to start a dual language immersion program. VELI seeks to bring Vietnamese/English language immersion classes to public schools in the Garden Grove Unified School District (GGUSD). These classes will teach standard subjects in public schools, such as math, science, language arts, and history both in English and Vietnamese languages. Vietnamese students make up a large percentage of the GGUSD, and VELI seeks to address the interests of these students and those of their parents. VELI will help students understand their cultural history, enhance students’ academic competence, and create enriching opportunities for their future.

VELI will provide students across the school district with a rich and fulfilling opportunity to attend standard subject classes taught in both English and Vietnamese. The VELI website will be updated frequently with relevant and fresh information. Students, parents, and those who would like to learn more about VELI will have a resource from which to draw information on the efforts and progress of VELI. A community forum on the website will also provide an outlet through which parents and students can interact and discuss with one another on topics related to dual language immersion and education.
